Weekly Update City of Darlington - SPECIAL EDITION

Cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported in South Carolina and several other states. As agencies continue to monitor all developments related to the disease, the DDRA aims to provide you with the information necessary to continue business.

We are working on a list of what businesses are operating and at what capacity. Please send information to darlingtonplanner@gmail.com or text 843-992-1561. We will provide a link with all the details we have, and the beginning of this list is below.

CANCELLATIONS & RESCHEDULING

While City Offices will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17, through the end of the month, individuals are encouraged to do all business by phone or email during this event. City staff will be available by phone and email, and essential services will not be interrupted. You can find updates here.

  • All City offices are restricted to essential personnel only.
  • All City and County meetings are cancelled through March 31.
  • City Court will be rescheduled.
  • No recycling will be collected the remainder of the month.

Darlington Country Club will hold its Tuesday night family buffet. Reservations are required for one of the two seatings, at 5:30 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m. Call  843-393-0236

COVID_library.

Darlington Kiwanis Club will hold its regular scheduled meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Darlington Country Club. Those with weak or suppressed immune systems are asked to stay home for their well-being. The Annual Oyster Roast set for March 28 has been cancelled.

Dollar General stores will dedicate the first hour of every shopping day to senior shoppers beginning Tuesday, March 17. The company is asking non-senior customers to avoid shopping at Dollar General stores in the first hour after stores open so that seniors, who are more at risk from the COVID-19 coronavirus, can avoid shopping while stores are busy.

The Edwards Jones Offices are open, but public access is restricted until further notice. Please call Nancy Matthews at 843-398-5991 for details or to schedule an appointment.

Joe's Grill made a cash donation to the Darlington Fire Department from the proceeds of the first Chili Championship.

Joe's Grill continues its operations at 306 Russell St. and is taking every precaution to keep the restaurant sanitized and clean. However, for those who prefer to call for take-out orders, we will also be offering CURB SIDE SERVICE. Just call in your order ahead of time and let us know by phone when you have arrived, and we will gladly bring your order out to the car. 843-944-0626

The 2020 Lamar Egg Scramble Jamboree and all of its associated events have been canceled.

Napa Auto Parts is open normal business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday at 612 Pearl St. 843-393-2801

Nick's BBQ & Drive-In is open for normal business hours, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 310 S. Main St. 843-393-6684

Nursing homes have restricted visitation to protect the vulnerable adults in their care based on federal guidelines. Only staff and emergency personnel will be allowed access to those individuals.

Singletary Auto Repair is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Taki's Diner will be open its normal hours, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Eat-in, take-out, or curb-side service available. 843-393-8979

 

SCHOOL NEWS

Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School announced a temporary closure for the school and transition to distance learning beginning Monday. The school will remain closed throughout the end of the month of March. All events and after school activities are postponed for the month of March and will be rescheduled. Distance learning means Trinity-Byrnes students will not be missing class.

The Darlington County School District released its eLearning and remote learning plan to continue instruction while district schools are closed. Through the DCSD program, students will be able to keep learning, even when face-to-face options are unavailable. The district also announced how parents can pick up devices still at school, as well as introduced teacher office hours and the new technology helpline. MORE INFO

The Darlington County School District (DCSD) will provide nutritional, breakfast and lunch meals at more than 30 locations during school closures for the coronavirus situation.

Any child who is 18 years old or younger can get drive-thru, "grab-and-go" meal bags at more than 30 locations, Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The meals will be served beginning Tuesday, March 17. The child or children must be present at the time of pick up. The meal bags will contain breakfast, lunch and a snack, so only one trip needs to be made each day.
