Weekly Update City of Darlington

Monday

Teen Programs are held at 5 p.m. Mondays at the Darlington Library. 843-398-4940

Darlington County Water & Sewer Authority Board of Directors meets at 5 p.m. in the Conference Room at 1701 Harry Byrd Hwy., Darlington.

Alcoholics Anonymous holds an open meeting at 8 p.m. Mondays at Trinity United Methodist Church, 126 Pearl Street. Use the Orange Street entrance. Info: 843-395-6897

 

Tuesday

Free Exercise Classes will be held at 9 a.m. most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the Harmon Baldwin Recreation Center, 300 Sanders St., Darlington. Info: 843-398-4030

Paws to Read is a literacy program where emerging and reluctant readers can create positive emotional connections with reading. Therapy Dogs International provides one-on-one reading sessions at 12:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month and at 3 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Darlington Library, 204 N. Main St.

Swing and Shag Dance Lessons from 8 to 10 p.m. at Darlington Elks Lodge, 836 Timmonsville Highway, Darlington. 843-393-1451

 

Wednesday

City of Darlington offices will be closed from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, for the City Employee Luncheon.

Join Darlington Recreation for a trip to Billy Graham Library on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Depart at 9 a.m. and return by 6 p.m. Cost is $10. Lunch is on your own. Must register one week prior.

Holiday Sweet Swap: Prepare at least 2 dozen holiday treats (cookies, bars, cupcakes, pie slices, etc.) and bring them to the Darlington Library to swap and share recipes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19. Info: 843-398-4940

Fahrenheit 255 will be having a tacky Christmas sweater party for trivia night with prizes and specials! So find your tackiest sweater and join us at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, for trivia and rock on bingo!

Friday

Darlington Recreation will show Elf: The Movie at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 on the Public Square. Free admission. Rain location is Harmon Baldwin Recreation Center, 300 Sanders St.

 

Saturday

On Saturday, Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, we will have Pageant Practice and a Christmas Party for the children at St. Matthew’s Church, 210 S. Main St. Everyone interested in being a part of the pageant at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve should be present to practice walking and songs. After practice we will have crafts, snacks, and a Christmas movie. All kids are invited to join us.

 

Sunday

Kistler Hardee Funeral Home will hold a Remembrance Tree Planting Ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, in memory of all the families served in 2018. An oak tree will be planted at the new park planned for Hampton and Siskron Streets. All are welcome to attend.

 

Mark Your Calendars

City offices will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 24-26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Offices will re-open at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. Trash will NOT be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 25, due to the Christmas holiday. Collection will of Tuesday’s route will resume on Wednesday.

First Church of God presents Christmas for Darlington from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the church, 609 N. Main St.
