Weekly Update City of Darlington

Wednesday

Fall Favorites: Recreate your favorite holiday dish or create a new one with all those leftovers! Fall Favorites is the theme for this month's What the Fork! Participation is not only easy, it's FUN! Prepare a dish Bring it to the Darlington Library at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Enjoy a feast fit for the holidays. Info: 843-398-4940

Saturday

Please join us for The Darlington Family YMCA 5K Reindeer Run on a USATF Certified Course. Registration can be done at any branch of the Upper Pee Dee YMCA or online at www.upperpdymca.org. Early Registration is $20 for members/$25 for non-members by November 21. Late Registration is $25 for members/$30 for non-members November 22 and after. Students $10 with a school ID. Price includes a long sleeve t-shirt for pre-registered participants only. Packets for those that pre-register may be picked up at the Darlington Family YMCA front desk beginning Nov. 30. Paws to Read is a literacy program where emerging and reluctant readers can create positive emotional connections with reading. Therapy Dogs International provides one-on-one reading sessions at 12:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month and at 3 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Darlington Library, 204 N. Main St.

The Southeastern Bluegrass Association presents the best in bluegrass, featuring the Radio Flyer Band and a great local band for its December concert at The Music Hall, 1945 Harry Byrd Highway, Darlington. Jamming starts at 4 PM, followed by open mic at 5, with featured bands starting at 5:45. Adults 10.00, students 5.00 and under 12 free. Sunday

The Darlington Christmas Parade will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, starting at Fitness World Gyms on Pearl Street and heading into downtown.

The Kiwanis Club of Darlington Carol Lighting Ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Public Square following the Christmas Parade.

Darlington High School students will pack and distribute food during Old People’s Christmas starting at 8 a.m. Dec. 8.

Christmas Market: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 126 Pearl St. Vendors apply here.

Gingerbread House Workshop: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16m sponsored by The Friends of the Darlington Library. Desi Conrad, a local expert in gingerbread construction & design, will be our guide throughout the whole process. Space is limited, so make sure to reserve your spot early. The cost is $20 per house, and the proceeds will go towards additional programming and supplies for the Darlington Library. Candy will also be provided to adorn your culinary castle with colorful baubles (or not...the choice is yours). Info: 843-398-4940
