Author Olin Sansbury, Chancellor Emeritus of the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg and Darlington native, will discuss his memoir "Joint Ventures," at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Darlington Library, 204 N. Main St., Darlington. The book draws upon his life experiences and reflects his view that "human existence is a web of joint ventures." In it, Sansbury describes his victories and setbacks with humor and grace, giving an honest and fair account of his life and of the state of our nation's future. Sansbury holds an undergraduate degree in history from Wofford College and a Ph.D. in international studies from USC Columbia, and has served as dean of students at Francis Marion University and as the first chancellor at USCS. He has been heavily involved in the expansion of South Carolina's public higher education system throughout his career.

Letters and words clipped from vintage print material allow one's mind to wander, envisioning forgotten friends, past holidays, ancient occasions, former cars, and hilarious fashion trends. Yet, all the images are anonymous. The photos come from yard sales, auctions, and abandoned locations. Who are these people? Who really knows? They are distant aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, siblings, and in-laws. They are society's family tree, our collective wall of ancestors.

Darlington City Hall has reopened to the public at a limited capacity. Hours of operation remain 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• Individuals may only enter through the front door of City Hall, 400 Pearl St.
• Individuals must wear a mask.
• Individuals must maintain social distancing of six (6) feet from others.
• A maximum of three (3) people will be allowed in the reception area at any one time. Others must wait outside.
• Restrooms will not be open to the public.

Individuals are still encouraged to do as much business by telephone and email as possible. City staff will be available, and essential services will not be interrupted. Below are the numbers to call for specific questions.
