The Darlington Lions Club will hold its annual Vidalia Onion Sale again this year. Delivery will be mid May. A 10-lb. bag is $10 while a 25-lb. pound box is $17.

Deadline to order is May 8.

Governor and SC Chamber Accelerate SC Survey: The Governor's accelerateSC Task Force is gathering information to assist the task force and policymakers with making decisions on how to re-open and revitalize South Carolina's businesses. The SC Chamber and SC Department of Commerce have developed a survey, which the task force will use to seek critically-needed data to make important decisions during the next 30 days. As the leading provider of news, information and advertising in the Pee Dee Region today the Morning News is proud to announce the launch of our Local Marketing Grant program. This program offers matching marketing funds to local businesses in the Pee Dee whose livelihood has been impacted by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. This program will be available to locally owned and operated businesses impacted by the COVID-19 virus, and will provide advertising grants for use in Morning News' print and digital publications and services. This program builds upon our existing commitment to our local business community through such successful initiatives as our free Buy Local gift card program, our Pick-Up and Delivery Directory for local restaurants offering carry-out and delivery as well as our Shop Local We're Open business pages and online Business Directory. Local grants will range from $250 to $15,000 each month, and will be awarded in April, May and June. Applicants may apply online.

Darlington Country Club unveils its Grab and Golf lunch menu. These menu items are made with golfers in mind, but members can take advantage of this also. Members can call 843-393-2196, ext. 101 for the Pro Shop or ext. 103 for the reservation line, to place an order. Golfers should call the Pro Shop when "making the turn" between holes 7 and 8 if they want a special order or just pick up the Grab and Golf items and finish playing. Made to order specials will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Grab and Golf items are available all day.

 

Thursday

Darlington Country Club will have Lunch Menu Specials. Members can call in an order to ext. 102 for lunch. We will have it ready for them at their requested time. The Grab and Golf menu items will still be available in Pro Shop, we hope to have these available daily. Fahrenheit 225 will have Isolation Trivia Night on Thursdays with four rounds 30-minute rounds beginning at 6 p.m. Each round will consist of 6 questions worth one point each. Each question will be asked as a separate Facebook post. Submit your answer as a reply. The point will go to the first correct answer. Please reply only once with your answer, and do not add any additional replies to that particular post. Any edited answers will not be scored. Each round's winner will be given a $5 credit at the restaurant. Pick up to-go orders at 26 Public Square, Darlington. Call in take-out orders at (843) 944-0321.

James Hudson for Darlington County Sheriff will hold a virtual town hall at 7 p.m. April 30 on Facebook and Instagram Live.

 

Sunday

Car Church at Two-O-One Pearl Street, the old post office, will be held at 10 a.m. on Sundays. Drive up and tune the radio to 88.7FM to hear the service. Darlington Police Chief Kelvin Washington will bring the message. Chief Washington is currently attending Seminary in preparation for life after law enforcement. Dianne Sigmon will be the music director for the day!

Parking Lot Church in the grassy area behind the ball field at 10:30 a.m. at Mechanicsville Baptist Church. There will be ushers directing you where to park your vehicle. Once parked, please tune your radio to 102.5FM. All are welcome.

SCHOOL NEWS

Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School announced a temporary closure for the school and transition to distance learning beginning Monday. The school will remain closed throughout the end of the school year. Distance learning means Trinity-Byrnes students will not be missing class.

The Darlington County School District released its eLearning and remote learning plan to continue instruction while district schools are closed. Through the DCSD program, students will be able to keep learning, even when face-to-face options are unavailable. The district also announced how parents can pick up devices still at school, as well as introduced teacher office hours and the new technology helpline. MORE INFO -> HERE

The Darlington County School District (DCSD) will provide nutritional, breakfast and lunch meals at more than 30 locations during school closures for the coronavirus situation.

Any child who is 18 years old or younger can get drive-thru, "grab-and-go" meal bags at more than 30 locations, Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The child or children must be present at the time of pick up. The meal bags will contain breakfast, lunch and a snack, so only one trip needs to be made each day.
