Congratulations to Our Darlington County Junior Boys who have made it to Championship Day! They played Tennessee this morning at 9 a.m., and, if they win that one, they play Florida at 12 noon for the Championship! Keep grinding guys!

Filing for Darlington City Council opens at noon August 1 and continues until noon August 15 at City Hall, 400 Pearl St. Seats include three at-large council seats and the mayor’s seat. Candidates should bring proof of residency and filing fee. Info: 843-398-4000 x 101.

Countdown to Darlington Race Week: Darlington Raceway and the United States Auto Club (USAC) .25 Series have announced that the popular quarter midgets will compete in Darlington during the track’s famed Bojangles‘ Southern 500 race weekend on August 30-September 1, 2019.

The Gandy Pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting, on Wednesdays through Saturdays at 115 Gary St. The pool is open to the public, and the cost is $1 for the day. The pool is available to rent for parties by calling 843-665-4244

Join the Darlington Police Department for National Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, at Liberty Lane and Pearl Street. Face painting, food, health screenings by the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County, games with the Darlington Area Recreation Department, and free school supplies. Other participating agencies include Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, National Guard, and The Lord Cares.

The Miss Darlington USA and Miss Darlington Teen USA pageants will be held for the first time ever on August 17th at Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School at 7 p.m. The winners will represent the City of Darlington at the 2020 Miss South Carolina USA and Miss South Carolina Teen USA pageants held in North Charleston on November 22-23, 2019.
